ArcGIS for Developers: Free Web Seminar

Next month (October 20th) I'll be doing a live training seminar on the ESRI Virtual Campus about ArcGIS for Developers. It will be a high-level introduction to developer opportunities with ArcGIS Desktop, Engine, and Server. I'm going to get Brian to help out so it should be a good introduction to ArcGIS for developers.

    Project to Trace Human Migration

    Project to Trace Human Migration

As I was setting up a demo machine and waiting for Visual Studio .Net to install, I flipped through an issue of ComputerWorld and found an interesting article on IBM and the National Geographic Society teaming up to trace human migration. I would assume there will be some mapping and GIS spatial analysis in this project.

There was a time back in college after I returned from my mission to Guatemala that considered studying anthropology but after a few classes I became more interested in Geography and the study of why behind the where. However anthropological studies like this one that have a spatial component are still very interesting to me. It will be interesting to see what comes out of this IBM / NGS project.

    100th Post

I haven't been posting a lot lately and I will not make any excuses... But I am going to try and write more.... Blogger, the provider of this free blog, doesn't provide many reporting or statistics but they do keep track of the number of post. I noticed that I was at 99 so I decided to go ahead and post for the 100th time on this little blog. I appreciate the feedback and comments and hopefully as I try and post more, I can get more comments from you.

    ArcGIS Schematics

ArcGIS Schematics is an ArcGIS extension that enables users to automatically generate, visualize, and manipulate schemas and diagrams from network data. This white paper provides details about ArcGIS Schematics.

Currently Schematics is an extension to ArcGIS Desktop but in future releases will be available to Engine developers.

Anyone had any experience with Schematics?

    Blogging via MS Word

This is a test of how the Blogger add-in for MS Word.  After installing the free plug-in to Word, it appears that I can now write and post to my Blogger account directly from Word.  The first thing I have noticed is that you can’t have Outlook open to use the Blogger add-in if Word is your email editor.

    Vacation

As you have noticed, I haven't posted anything in several weeks and that is because I've been on a family vacation back to the South. I went back to my home state of South Carolina to visit my parents and other family members. It was a nice break but now I've got a pile of work and hundreds of emails to go through.

This fall should be exciting as development on the ArcGIS 9.2 release reaches beta and the EDN program continues to grow. I'll be at the PDC in LA in a few weeks - let me know if you are going to the PDC and we can meet up.
