GIS Case Study from South Carolina

Having been born and raised in the Palmetto state, this recently released case study caught my attention.

It’s a quick read on how a state agency is using GIS for emergency response and public health awareness applications.

    Cold Walk

As many of you know, I have the luxury of being able to walk to work. This is normally very enjoyable this time of year.  But the last few mornings, have been quite cold for Redlands.  At 7:00am this morning, it was 39 F… I know 39 F is warm for some parts of the world this time of year but for us in California it’s cold.

Had a really nice trip to Arizona for the Thanksgiving holiday last week the only problem was the traffic trying to get back into Southern California. Just wanted to say thanks to the readers of this blog for putting up with my spelling and grammar errors. I hope to blog more as we get closer to the 9.2 release and the ESRI Developer Conference.

    Photos from Stockholm

Here are some photos from my trip earlier this month to Stockholm, Sweden. It was a lot of fun but it was cold compared to Southern California.

New ESRI Virtual Campus Workshop: Introduction to Map Production System

GIS article on CNN - 'Geocoding' used to locate - Katrina survivors
A friend outside the GIS industry sent me this article from CNN and said... "Looks like all that mapping stuff you do is valuable". He was joking but at the same time it's good to see the value of GIS being reported by the major news outlets.

    Rivalry Week

Rise and Shout the Cougars are out!

For those that know me out of work, know that I’m a big sports fan. I love late fall because it’s college football rivalry games. This Saturday, I’ll be cheering hard for my BYU Cougars vs. Utah and the South Carolina Gamecocks as they battle Clemson.

    ESRI Developer Summit

While here in Stockholm, enjoying some good wireless access, I noticed that the web site for the ESRI Developer Summit is live. The EDN team is heavily involved with this upcoming event and hopefully you will all be able to join us in Palm Springs next March. We are planning the Summit right now and would like your feedback on session subjects. The goal is to make this a true developer level event but also an event for GIS developers from around the world to come together and network.

    Nordic Dev Conference

I'm in Stockholm, Sweden this week at the ESRI Nordic Developer Conference put on by ESRI-Sweden with support from Microsoft and IBM. I gave several presentations yesterday about the different developer opportunities with ArcGIS. The conference has 3 tracks (.Net, Java, and IT Business). It's been really good to be here and meet with the developers and share some information on what's possible as a developer with ArcGIS. Representing IBM here at the conference was Dan who before working for IBM helped with the initial release ArcGIS Engine and the Java API. Here's a picture of Dan, Eric and I in Stockholm...
