'Tis the season for spending time with friends, coworkers, neighbors, and family–and, of course, "spending time" translates into eating food. A lot of it. But don't resign yourself to a winter of baggy sweatshirts, or wait until January 1 to worry about your newly acquired gut.
The No. 1 mistake people make during the holidays is self-sabotage, according to Jim White, spokesman for the American Dietetic Association. "[Gyms nationwide] are slammed the whole month of January," White says. "If you can lose weight by January 1, you'll beat the crowds." Not to mention look good in all those holiday pictures.
